iPhone Battery Draining Too Fast? 8 Fixes That Actually Work

iPhone battery drain is the number one complaint we hear. Before spending money on a new battery, try these fixes in order — most drain issues are software-related and free to fix.

Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging. If health is below 80%, replacement is the fix. If it's above 80%, it's likely a software or settings issue — continue below.

Settings → Battery → scroll down to see per-app battery usage. If one app is using 40%+ of your battery, that's your problem. Delete or restrict it: Settings → [App] → Background App Refresh → Off.

Settings → General → Background App Refresh → Off. This stops apps from updating in the background. One of the biggest battery savers on any iPhone.

Settings → Display & Brightness → Always On → Off. Always-On Display uses significant battery. Turn it off if you don't need it.

Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. Change most apps from "Always" to "While Using" or "Never." Maps apps and social media accessing your location constantly drain battery fast.

Some iOS versions have known battery drain bugs. Settings → General → Software Update. Installing the latest iOS often resolves drain issues that appeared after an update.

Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings. This doesn't delete data but resets all settings to default — fixes many persistent drain issues caused by corrupt settings. Re-configure Wi-Fi and preferences afterwards.

If battery health is below 80%, or if you're on 100% and your phone dies by lunchtime despite software fixes, it's time for a new battery.
